The Wahl Vapor is Wahl Professional's new cordless clipper, and it is built around one idea: go from bald to fade with a single tool. Until now that meant a Balding Clipper for the skin and a Magic Clip or Senior for the blend. The Vapor's adjustable balding blade is designed to do both. Here is what is actually in it, and how it stacks up against the Wahl clippers barbers already own.
What is different about the Vapor
- Brushless motor at 8,000 RPM with Adaptive Speed Control, which holds cutting speed steady as the blade meets thicker hair. The Magic Clip's rotary motor runs at 6,500 RPM by comparison.
- F32 Fadeout blade. 32 fine, ball-pointed teeth, 50 per cent more than a standard Wahl blade, which is what makes the transitions on a skin fade look continuous rather than stepped.
- Zero-gap adjustable, 0.5mm to 1.2mm. The blade itself covers the balding range before you touch a guard, so the same clipper takes the skin down and sets the first guideline.
- High-carbon steel with PVD and DLC coatings, for edge life and a cooler-running blade.
- Up to 150 minutes cordless from roughly a 60-minute charge, and it also runs corded.
- 280 grams with a rubberised no-slip grip, which is light for a full-size clipper.
- Low-profile charge stand in the box, plus seven premium cutting guides, a 5V transformer, blade oil, brush and blade guard.

Vapor vs Magic Clip
The Magic Clip is still the blending clipper. Its Stagger-Tooth blade is designed to diffuse lines of demarcation, and a lot of barbers will keep it for that reason alone. The Vapor cuts closer, runs a stronger motor and replaces the balding clipper in the kit. If you cut a lot of skin fades, the Vapor saves a tool change on every client. If your work is mostly textured blends and crops, the Magic Clip's blade is still the one built for it.
Vapor vs Senior 2.0
The Senior 2.0 is the bulk-removal clipper: the power to take thick, coarse hair down fast without snagging. The Vapor is the finishing and fading clipper. A busy barber will own both; a home user cutting one or two heads a week who wants the closest possible fade should pick the Vapor.
Vapor vs Balding Clipper
The 5-Star Balding Clipper cuts ultra-close and costs about half as much, but it is corded and it does one job. The Vapor does that job cordless and then keeps going up the fade. If you already own a Balding Clipper you like, there is no reason to change; if you are buying your first skin-fade tool, the Vapor is the better long-term buy.
