What Limitless colour is
A vegan, low-ammonia permanent cream colour in 100ml tubes, sold to salons and to confident home colourists who want salon results at trade prices. How to read the shade number
Every shade is written as two numbers separated by a point, for example 5.1.
- The first number is the level, how light or dark: 1 is black, 3 dark brown, 4 medium brown, 5 light brown, 6 dark blonde, 7 medium blonde, 8 light blonde, 9 very light blonde, 10 lightest blonde, and 11 is a high-lift special blonde.
- The number after the point is the tone. .0 is natural, with no added reflect. .1 is ash, which cools and cancels warmth. Higher tone numbers add warmth or reflects, following the standard professional numbering, and the second digit where there is one is the secondary tone.
So 5.0 is a natural light brown and 5.1 is a light brown with an ash tone. Same depth, cooler result.

Choosing between a .0 and a .1
Natural (.0) shades give the truest version of a level and the most reliable grey coverage. Ash (.1) shades are the choice when hair pulls warm: brown that goes red, blonde that goes gold. If you are lightening more than a level, expect warmth and pick the ash. If you are covering grey at the same depth, the natural is the safer tube, or mix the two.
What you need with the tube
- Developer. Match the volume to the job: lower volume for deposit and grey coverage, higher for lift. Follow the tube directions for the mixing ratio.
- Lightener, if you are going more than a few levels lighter or pre-lightening for a fashion shade.
