Short answer: yes, NAK Hair is good, provided you buy the right range for your hair. It is a professional Australian salon brand that has been around for more than two decades, it is priced below the big international salon names, and it is one of the ranges Adelaide salons keep on their backbar. Most of the “NAK ruined my hair” reviews you will find online come down to one thing: the wrong product on the wrong hair. More on that below.

What NAK Hair actually is
NAK Hair is Australian made and Australian owned. It was founded by hair industry people, not a marketing company, and it has been selling into professional salons across Australia and New Zealand for more than 20 years. NAK formulates its products to be vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, and free from sulphates and parabens.
The brand is split into four ranges, and knowing which is which solves half the “is it any good” question:
- NAK Signature: the core range, and where most people should start. Hydrate, Nourish, Volume and Curl for everyday washing, Structure Complex for weak or chemically treated hair, the Blonde, Blonde Plus and Platinum Blonde toning shampoos, the Replends and 60 Second Repair treatments, and the styling line (Dry Texture Spray, Fixation Finishing Spray, Sea Salt Mist, Thermal Shield).
- NAK Care: the concern-led range in bigger 500ml bottles, including Balance for oily roots and a gentle Blonde toning shampoo.
- NAK Barber: the men's range. Surf Wax, Out of Control, Slick Pomade and Tough N Up, plus shampoo, shaving and beard care.
- K.Revive: the intensive keratin and peptide treatment line for hair that has been through a lot of colour, bleach or heat.

Why salons use it
It works on the chair. The Ultimate Treatment 60 Second Repair is the product hairdressers reach for between a colour service and a blow-dry, because it leaves hair feeling smoother and easier to comb in about a minute. It is one of our best-selling NAK products in both the 150ml retail size and the 1-litre salon size.
The 1-litre sizes make the maths work. Salons buy shampoo by the litre, and NAK's litre bottles bring the per-wash cost down to a level that is hard to beat for a professional brand. Home users are catching on: the Nourish Shampoo 1L is a consistent reorder for families and anyone with long hair.
It is recognised inside the industry. NAK's Structure Complex Protein Shampoo and Conditioner were named Best in Care at the 2025 ANZ Hair Industry Awards, judged by the trade rather than by an influencer panel.
The price point is sensible. NAK sits in the mid-range of professional haircare. You get a genuine salon formula without paying the premium attached to the big European names.
Where NAK is strongest
- Dry, frizzy or thick hair. Hydrate Shampoo and Hydrate Conditioner are the range's workhorses and the products most first-time NAK buyers should start with.
- Blondes. NAK runs three toning shampoos at three different strengths (Blonde, Blonde Plus and Platinum Blonde Anti-Yellow), which is more choice than most brands offer. Blonde Plus is a standout.
- Curls and waves. The Curl shampoo, conditioner and styling products are a proper curl system, not a rebadged hydrating line.
- Styling and texture. Dry Texture Spray and Fixation Finishing Spray are salon staples for a reason.
- Men. NAK Barber is priced for barbershops, comes in barber-friendly 90g tins, and holds up in an Adelaide summer.
Where people go wrong with it
Most negative NAK reviews online follow the same pattern, and none of them are the formula's fault.
- Protein on hair that needs moisture. Structure Complex is a protein line for weak, over-processed hair. Use it every wash on hair that is not damaged and it will start to feel dry and stiff. Alternate it with Hydrate or Nourish, or skip it entirely if your hair is healthy.
- Toning shampoo every wash. Blonde Plus and Platinum Blonde deposit violet pigment. On porous or very light hair, using them at every wash can leave a lilac cast. Once or twice a week is the standard salon advice.

- Expecting a shampoo to undo a bad bleach job. No shampoo does that. K.Revive is NAK's intensive treatment range, and a stylist is the first call for hair that has been over-processed.

How it compares to other salon brands
NAK competes with the likes of muk, ELEVEN Australia and De Lorenzo at the Australian end, and with Kérastase, Redken and Wella at the international end. Against the Australian brands it is on par for performance and usually wins on range depth, particularly for blondes and for 1-litre sizes. Against the international brands it gives up some of the luxury feel and fragrance, and charges a lot less for it.

The verdict
Buy NAK if you want salon-formulated, Australian-made haircare at a price that does not sting, and you are willing to spend two minutes choosing the right range. Skip it only if you are chasing a luxury unboxing experience, or if you have severely compromised hair that needs a stylist's assessment before any retail product.
