OLAPLEX numbers its products in the order you use them, which is helpful once you know the system and baffling before you do. Here is what each number does, and the order to use them in.
The treatments: No.0 and No.3
No.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment is a liquid primer you apply to dry hair for 10 minutes. No.3 Hair Perfector is the at-home pre-shampoo treatment – apply it over No.0 (or on its own) for at least 10 minutes, then rinse and shampoo. Use No.3 once a week, or two to three times a week on bleached or damaged hair. The No.0 + No.3 bundle is the easiest way to start.
The wash: No.4 and No.5
No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner are the everyday pair. Variants cover specific needs:
- No.4P and No.5P Blonde Enhancer – purple toning for blonde, grey and highlighted hair
- No.4C Clarifying Shampoo – removes product, mineral and hard-water build-up
- No.4D Dry Shampoo – between washes
- No.4 Fine and No.5 Fine – lighter versions for fine hair
- No.5L Leave-In Conditioner – lightweight leave-in for detangling and moisture
The mask: No.8
No.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask is the weekly mask for moisture, shine and body. The 4-in-1 Moisture Mask is the richer version for very dry or coarse hair.
The leave-ins: No.6, No.7 and No.9
No.6 Bond Smoother is a leave-in cream that smooths frizz and speeds up blow-drying. No.7 Bonding Oil adds shine and heat protection with a few drops. No.9 Bond Protector Serum protects against pollution and heat and is the final step before styling.
Curls and styling: No.10 and the kits
No.10 Bond Shaper Curl Defining Gel defines curls and waves without crunch, and the Bond Shaper Curl Rebuilding Kit is the in-salon curl treatment. The Volumizing Blow Dry Mist adds lift. Kits such as the Take Home Treatment Bundle, Blonde Bonding Kit and Complete Styling Kit bundle the essentials.
The full routine, in order
- Dry hair: No.0 for 10 minutes
- Layer No.3 on top, leave at least 10 minutes, rinse
- No.4 shampoo, then No.5 conditioner (or No.8 mask once a week)
- Towel-dried hair: No.6 cream, No.7 oil or No.9 serum
