This guide covers what Gamma+ does well, what to check before you buy, and which Gamma+ tool suits which kind of work.

What is Gamma+?

Gamma+ is the brand of Gamma Più, an Italian company based in Cazzago San Martino, in the province of Brescia in northern Italy. It was founded in 1978 as a small hair dryer maker, and today it makes professional dryers, straighteners, curling irons and brushes for stylists, plus a barber range of clippers, trimmers and foil shavers. MV Hair & Beauty stocks genuine Gamma+ from authorised Australian distributors.

What Gamma+ does well

  • Customisation. The Boosted and Boosted Up clippers each come with three interchangeable body kits and a choice of click or floating levers, and the Boosted and Hitter Up trimmers each come with three interchangeable covers.
  • Blades. The Boosted trimmer's 40mm X-PRO Black Diamond Carbon DLC T-blade adjusts from 0.8mm down to zero gap, and the Boosted Up clipper uses a 45mm Black Diamond Carbon DLC blade.
  • A motor for every style of work. Gamma+ uses rotary motors in its Boosted clippers and trimmer, a digital motor in the Cyborg tools, a micro-chipped 10,000 strokes-per-minute motor in the X-Evo trimmer and its Vector IN2 motor with torque control in the Xcell and XCeed clippers and the Xcell trimmer.
  • Finishing. The Boosted foil shaver runs at 11,000 RPM with two gold titanium foils and a central cutter for longer hairs, and it is rated IPX7 water resistant.
  • Light, fast dryers. The X-Cell hair dryer weighs 290g and has a 110,000 RPM digital motor, and the XCeed hair dryer runs a 120,000 RPM brushless motor with Smart Memory for your last settings.

What to check before you buy

  • Boosted is a range, not one tool. The Boosted and Boosted Up are two different clippers, and the Boosted One is a narrow single-foil shaver, separate from the Boosted foil shaver. Our Boosted vs Boosted Up comparison explains the two clippers.
  • Charging differs by model. The original Boosted clipper charges on its base, by direct cord or by mini-USB. The Boosted Up, Boosted One, Hitter Up and Xcell tools charge by USB-C, and the Wireless Prodigy shaver charges wirelessly.
  • Runtime runs from about two hours to four. The Boosted Up, Boosted trimmer and Boosted foil shaver are each listed at 120 minutes, the Cyborg trimmer at 180 minutes and the Absolute Hitter trimmer at up to four hours.
  • Guard sets differ. The original Boosted clipper comes with eight double-magnetic guards from 1.5 to 19mm, while the Boosted Up comes with four.
  • Parts are model-specific. The Boosted shaver replacement head fits the Boosted shaver only, while Gamma+ lists its DLC fixed fade blade as compatible with all Gamma+ and StyleCraft clippers. Match the part to your tool before ordering.

Keep your Gamma+ tools cutting well

  1. Brush loose hair from the blade after every client. The Gamma+ Blow Vac 2-in-1 blows and vacuums loose hair in one tool.
  2. Lubricate the blade regularly. Gamma+ Blade Therapy is a 400ml 5-in-1 spray that lubricates, cleans, cools and helps prevent rust.
  3. After zero-gapping a blade, check the alignment before it touches skin.
  4. Replace a blade or foil when it starts pulling. Gamma+ suggests changing clipper blades every 1 to 4 months, depending on use, and Boosted shaver heads every 3 to 6 months. Genuine parts are in our Gamma+ replacement blades and shaver heads range.
